Located in Houston, Texas, the Duchesne Academy of the Sacred Heart is a school for girls from Pre-K to 12th grade. Social awareness, active faith, community, and personal goals lie at the core of all they do. Along with that, their mission is inspiring a lifelong love of learning, and encouraging creativity and imagination among the girls educated there.
Recently, a junior at the school, Sarah Elisa Diaz Perdomo, went around to the Academy's fourth grade classes and taught them about women in STEM. Not only did she inspire them through presentations about these women’s achievements, she also passed out coloring booklets.
Nevertheless, She Persisted…
Full of illustrations and biographies, the book is called Nevertheless, She Persisted: 10 Women Who Broke Barriers in STEM.
Perdomo had dedicated time to working with a group of students at the Academy to create the booklet, leading the project in an effort to earn a Girl Scout Gold Award.
The coloring book features women from history like leading mathematician Hypatia, naturalist Maria Sibylla Merian, and astronomer Wang Zhenyi, offering glimpses into their lives and all they overcame.
