Where you fit in
This position sits in the Advocacy team of the Corporate Relations (CR) Function reporting to the Head of Advocacy in Germany. The role offers the opportunity to shape the company’s advocacy in a rapidly changing environment in the power sector in Germany with a focus on the role of renewable energies. The Advisor Power/New Energies works closely with other policy, regulatory, corporate relations colleagues to ensure alignment of the company’s policy positions in the power/new energies sector. The successful candidate brings in an in-depth knowledge about German politics, an excellent understanding of the power market and the role of new energies in Germany/the EU to support business objectives.
What’s the role
Proactively build Shell’s reputation as the most competitive and innovative energy company via government stakeholders and support Shell’s business goals in the power sector in Germany
Develop, drive and implement effective engagement plans for business leaders with government officials and external stakeholders in Germany
Prepare briefings and communications material related to the power sector
Closely work with Shell businesses, project teams as well as subsidiaries in the power sector
Establish and cultivate relationships with relevant external stakeholders such as contacts to government, parliament officials, industry associations, other energy companies and relevant players at state levels to ensure effective access for business leaders
Monitor, analyze the regulatory framework in the German power sector and the role of renewable energies and advise businesses on market conditions and possible EU implications
Give input to Shell’s representation in industry associations related to the power sector
What we need from you
Educated to degree standard
Deep understanding of German politics, how it works at all levels and how it interacts with European institutions
Strategic, creative and collaborative communications professional with proven experience and a proven track record in advocacy
Broad understanding of the green power market, its players and the business models, previous experience in a power/energy company beneficial
Very good understanding of the energy transition, its priorities, players and policies at national and EU level
Sound judgment and strong problem-solving skills coupled with a strong outside-in mindset
Ability to feel comfortable offering advice as well as constructive challenge at the most senior level and able to become a thought partner for colleagues across the business and functions.
Ability to develop and maintain strong trusted relationship with external parties to deliver reputational gain on this theme as well as with colleagues across Shell in both business and country roles
Ability to manage complex issues and to work effectively and accurately under time pressure
Strong written and verbal communication skills in German and English, ability to find the right tone in different settings
Interpersonal work style that is collaborative, open, honest and respectful
