What’s the role?
The Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Advisor works in concert with the Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Manager to ensure implementation of impactful DEI programs across the enterprise. The goal of this position is to help leaders embed DEI into corporate culture, including systems and processes. The role also serves as the Program Manager for Employee Resource Group (ERG) activities. The selected candidate will work closely with Employee Relations, Equal Opportunity, Diversity Outreach, Supplier Diversity, and Workforce Development in this regard.
Works closely with the US DEI Manager, Human Resources, and senior leadership to develop and ensure implementation of US DEI Strategy across the enterprise.
Consults with HR and Business/Function leadership on DEI strategies and action plans that are in alignment with country and global objectives.
Provides thought leadership, and leading-edge tools and resources that can be implemented with and through internal partners. Performs external research and benchmarking and leverages this information to influence, support and facilitate cultural change.
Works closely with Equal Opportunity and related groups to analyze internal data such as workforce demographics, annual engagement survey results, and assurance process results to develop recommendations and fit-for-purpose DEI-related solutions.
Serves as program manager for 10 US ERGs and their chapters across the country. In this capacity, the selected candidate will provide guidance and support to US ERG Leaders and Executive Sponsors. In addition to providing oversight of ERG strategy and functioning, the DEI Advisor plays a crucial role in positioning ERGs for maximum impact and effectiveness.
Plays a critical role in the design and implementation of robust, forward-thinking and impactful annual DEI plans for Shell in the US. May consult with HR and business leadership on development of departmental DEI plans.
Serves as project manager for annual US D&I Week and other DEI projects as required.
Recommends and/or participates in the design and delivery of D&I processes, tools and programs as needed.
Participates in internal and external practitioner networks to share best practices and develop skills and knowledge.
Completes external DEI -related surveys
Manages key career development programs.
Leads select engagements with senior HR and business stakeholders and diverse teams of ‘DEI Champions’ to embed our desired culture across Shell.
May facilitate select internal and external D&I learning interventions across the enterprise
May assist in the formation of Business/Function D&I Councils
Prepares internal communications regarding DEI and may create and ensure maintenance of related websites.
Coaches HR and business/functional leaders in effective DEI interventions. May consult on high-impact or high-risk individual or collective complaints or other Employee Relations or DEI issues
What we need from you
Must have legal authorization to work in the US on a full-time basis for anyone other than current employer.
Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience is required. Advanced degree is a plus.
Minimum 6 years of direct experience in creating successful DEI initiatives and related activities. Extensive experience leading complex projects related to Diversity and Inclusion is a plus.
Strong consultation, prioritization and project management/implementation skills are a must.
Strong communication, coaching and influencing skills are required to effectively engage a broad range of both external and internal stakeholders
Able to identify and understand local external market trends (economic, political, social) and derive insights to drive an effective long-term equitable, inclusive and diverse environment
Success in effectively conducting courageous conversations on various DEI topics while creating an environment of trust, and vulnerability, and role-modelling a learner mindset while aiding in the expansion of personal and organizational thinking
Strong ability to look at the big picture, suggest and drive change to proactively and positively support the culture of the organization and an ability to distill key themes and value drivers from complex and sometimes conflicting data and insights
Organizational health/capability diagnostic, evaluation, and design skills
A strong sense of teamwork and partnership with others along with the ability to deliver results through others and to positively influence without authority
Excellent active listening, verbal, written and presentation skills
Strong analytical skills and proficiency with Excel
Must be capable of functioning independently and able to navigate ambiguity
High emotional intelligence; must relate well to people at all levels of the organization and in all types of roles
