POTENTIAL AREAS – Mineral and Surface Land Negotiation/Land Administration/Land Innovation
Land Negotiators work on cross-discipline teams where land, engineering, geology, marketing and accounting work together to build a strategic land base underlying large resource plays through landsales, acquisitions, lease purchases, and contractual arrangements. They often play a key role in acquisitions, divestitures, and joint venture relationship management and are typically involved in regulatory issues such as well spacing, well permitting and the legislative process. As a Land Negotiator intern at Ovintiv you will have the opportunity to interact with various internal teams and external partners, learn about North American land systems, build a land library of legal contracts and references, and research solutions to a variety of issues. Examples of past intern projects and responsibilities include:
Researching competitor ownership of surrounding leases.Analyzing leases and contracts to ensure accuracy of the land system.Assessed individual assets based on several qualifications for further development and evaluated project economic viability.
Roles in Land Administration include Lease Analyst and Division Order Analyst and involve the administration and maintenance of land agreements. Analysts play a key role in setting up and maintaining accurate and reliable land data records in the land and revenue systems, ensuring acreage position is accurately reflected, verifying working interest partners, well ownership percentages, forecasting and coding invoices for rentals, preparing and executing monthly mineral and surface lease rentals. Analysts build a strong understanding of State, Federal and Tribal Statutes and Regulations and the impact and obligations under Oil and Gas Agreements. As an intern in the Land Administration department, you will have the opportunity to be involved in preparing and reviewing land transfers, assignments, caveats/interest registrations and recorded filings, tracking expiries and coordinating continuations with the Land Negotiators, reviewing, preparing, and processing A&D conveyance documentation and researching and preparing Title reviews and working with Division Order documentation.
Land Innovation & Geospatial (CS)
The Land Innovation and Geospatial organization consists of two business technology teams that collectively apply strategic solutions and process improvements to streamline, simplify and reinvent how Land works. A Land Innovation/Geospatial Specialist collaborates with multiple stakeholders across all disciplines of the organization to understand key processes and data attributes. Through the full life cycle of research, design, recommendation and development of solutions the Specialist will develop dashboards, reports, applications, spatial analytics, automations and process improvements. These solutions will enable stakeholders to make educated, efficient and competitive decisions as well as provide consumable accurate real-time information across the greater Ovintiv Organization. In addition to the mindset of always innovating a core principle of the Land Innovation and Geospatial teams is to improve the quality of our Land information through proper data entry, validations, reducing or eliminating manual steps, and identifying potential issues through audits. As a Land Innovation/Geospatial intern, you will have the opportunity to review a business-critical process, learn new technologies, develop relationships, apply implementation strategies and collaborate with multiple disciplines to research, design, and build a robust solution
Enrollment/background in IT or computer science is an asset for this specific role.
HOW DO I QUALIFY?
Must be enrolled as a full-time student through December 2022.Must be available May 16 – August 4, 2022.3.0 or higher GPA.Enrollment in Energy and Professional Land Management or equivalent program is an asset.
