Business Overview

The Mobility business in India is in the growth stage and in the past four years has gone from 75 sites to 250+ sites. Shell Mobility business encompasses circa 45,000 sites in more than 80+ countries serving 30 million customers a day. The 2025 vision includes to add another 5000 retail sites to the network by accelerated growth in China, India, Indonesia, Mexico and Russia.

India is one of the key accelerated growth markets with a mandate to grow the network. The business has added multiple offers (fresh food, vehicle care, digital loyalty, etc.) and continues to do so – a customer-centric lens and value-based marketing are critical to drive business strategy and growth.

What is the role?

The Marketing Manager is responsible for establishing and delivering the annual marketing plan, developing and implementing growth campaigns, taking responsibility for rolling out key initiatives and strategy formulation, and will be a key contributor to active P&L management to deliver planned budgets & financial.

This position reports into the Cluster General Manager – Mobility India & Oman and will be a standing member of the Mobility India Leadership Team. The Marketing Manager has responsibilities across three key areas:

Fuels/ Mobility MarketingBrand & CommunicationsLoyalty & Digital / Payment & PartnershipsPeople Management responsibilities:  This role is a team management role with 5 Direct Reports; 5 Indirect reports

In addition to the above, he/she is also well positioned to represent the Shell Mobility India business within the Shell ecosystem and scout for brand and customer led synergies and opportunities within Shell ranging from Masterbrand, Lubricants, New Energies, New Ventures, internal incubators, IT/ Digital organisation, etc.

Key Aspects of the role:

Fuels/ Mobility Marketing

Understand the mosaic of fuel and mobility offers in the India market to position Shell as a leader in high quality fuels/ Mobility offers. as the network grows to 250+ sites and onwards. Establish brand value to support fuel portfolio strategy and volume delivery.Continuously hold the customer at the heart of it all to study and benchmark customer behavior through primary and secondary research, bring insights to cross functional teams for their actions beyond just communications.Guide the team to have insight driven and locally relevant communication that helps us strengthen the brand amongst our TG in India.Focus on gaining preference and market share in established cities in KA, TN, MH, GJ and introduce Shell Fuels in new cities that have not been exposed to differentiated/ additives fuels with a strong plan to deliver.Understand and follow the Energy Transition journey in India and lead projects to bring the new CVPs alive across Electric charging, Battery Swapping, Biofuels, D-LNG.

Brand & Communications:

Drive the positioning of the mobility offers as a part of the integrated offerEnsure a strong and differentiated brand positioning for Shell Mobility in India as the network grows to 250+ sites and onwardsDrive the brand, positioning and communication requirements of the Fuels, Vehicle care, Convenience Retail and Fresh Food & Beverage offers including private labels and services.Drive the team to plan and deliver customer-centric Local Area Marketing to support and maximize volume/non-Fuel retail delivery at a site levelEngage with communities and embed ‘Shell’ as a part of their lives to make their life’s journeys better to grow trust in our brand Manage all internal and external communications in alignment with brand messaging and purpose to build an emotional connect.Set up scalable processes and strategy to have greater focus on Social media and online communications for efficiency, along with leveraging traditional media to build the Shell brand.Own Brand assets and delivery of communications as per agreed brand standards for Mobility IN

Loyalty & Digital/ Payment & Partnerships

To build a consistent Digital strategy across Payment, Loyalty, Partnerships, etc. to maximize value for Mobility India and create the foundation of the future desired omnichannel experience.Leverage payment partnerships for improved benefits to Shell Mobility (via optimizing TCO, customer offers, reach for cross selling Shell offers, etc.)Achieve high base of registered users for the Shell Go+ App and leverage the Loyalty & CRM CVP to deliver business value. Set up ways of working for the team to collaborate across other functions like S&O, NFR, Finance, etc. to achieve desired business results.Create partnership strategy across OEMs, retailers, payment partners, EV players, etc. building on Shell Go+ app to enhance digital CVPs and create a strong a value proposition for user base and appropriate value across multiple revenue and non-revenue streams. Drive in new-to-Shell users through effective strategy and execution of Partnerships.

Special Challenges

Given the focus on value maximization the Marketing Manager will be the custodian of the budgets (OPEX) and responsible for accurately projecting, efficiently managing, promptly reporting and ensuring timely  post investment reviews. The SP&A is a key lever for managing P&L deliver from the point of view of defending and delivering value.

The Marketing Manager is a leader of a team with diverse skillsets and profiles and will need to have a Learners’ mindset and follow principles of D&I, beyond gender to styles and attitudes as well to motivate and channelize a high performing team.

Fast changing consumer, competitive and marketing environment will require a Learner’s mindset and need to adapt and iterate ways of working to deliver business results

Experience and Qualifications required

Post-Graduation Degree in Marketing or related field, with 15+ yrs of experienceStrong understanding of the India market/consumer and marketing channels. Experience in consumer focused industries FMCG, Retail, Telecom, e-Commerce, etc. will be a value-add.Understanding/appreciation of marketing research/ customer insight skills, sales & marketing (Brand Management/Product marketing)Experience in proactively identifying insights and finding creative ways to look at the business.Experience in building strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders.Highly effective at presenting complex information and analysis in a compelling and persuasive manner.Proven ability to negotiate priorities/ project management.Strategic, analytic and creative thinking skillsProven team leadership skills

India is one of the key accelerated growth markets with a mandate to grow the network to almost 10X in 8 years. The OU has the highest growth CAPEX in Retail over the last two years consistently with year on year delivery of the growth agenda.

The business has added multiple offers (fresh food, vehicle care, digital loyalty, etc.) and continues to do so – a customer-centric lens and value-based marketing are critical to drive business strategy and growth.The number of external stakeholders has increased as we aim to create an ecosystem for Mobility (OEMs, payment partners, etc.) and engage with communities to build trust in Shell.At the same time, it is pertinent to keep internal stakeholders posted on the journey that we are on to seek their support/ buy in/ alignment on various aspects – internal communication is directed at engaging stakeholders and inspiring the wider Mobility team and beyond.The Marketing Manager is also well positioned to scout for brand and customer led synergies and opportunities within Shell ranging from Masterbrand, Lubricants, New Energies, New Ventures, E4, SBOs, etc.
