Where you fit In

The Power Fundamentals Team is part of the Energy Team in Shell’s Strategy and Portfolio Department (SX). The role of the Energy Team is to provide a long-term view of the fundamentals of oil, gas and power in order to guide commercial and strategic decisions in Shell. The Power Fundamentals team is contributing to the growth of the power business in Shell, which is expected to become substantially more important as the company decarbonizes.

What’s the role?

As a member of the Power Fundamentals team in SX, the Power Market Analyst will focus on analysis and support of business opportunities and Strategy development.

This involves:

Leading power market analysis activities, in collaboration with Shell internal teams or external consultants,

Contributing to the development of  in-house modelling capabilities, for business and/or strategic analyses,

Quantifying and disseminating long-term power scenarios in collaboration with the Energy Team,

Providing specific support to project development teams on the economic value of renewable energy,

Liaising with various teams and stakeholders from Strategy, Trading, Project Development, Finance, etc.

What we need from you

Proven experience in power market analysis, particularly on the development of scenarios, dispatch analysis, consideration of different revenue streams (e.g.  capacity remuneration mechanisms, balancing and ancillary services markets, policy impact),

Knowledge/experience in energy system analysis (long-term techno-economic assessment of power systems, integration of renewables, system value of asset classes),

Experience with PLEXOS or similar power market modelling software.

Good understanding of the commercial and technical attributes of generation and storage technologies,

Knowledge of energy regulation,  and specifically power market regulation in Europe,

Excellent conceptual and critical thinking skills

Exposure to project development of renewable assets, and/or financial analysis of renewable assets,

A high capacity to deal with complex, multi-dimensional and ambiguous issues

Strong written and verbal presentation skills, ability to present complex results to different audiences,

Self-starter, independent and proactive with a desire to challenge the status quo and retain the independence of thought

Effectively working across multiple time zones and projects under compressed timelines

Network in academic energy modelling community would be advantage
