“Description of Role

The Process Engineering Project Manager role will manage a variety of technical projects associated with decreasing the carbon footprint of Calpine’s operation. This role requires a broad engineering knowledge and will focus on the following technology areas: Post-Combustion Carbon Capture, Hydrogen Combustion, and Direct Air Capture. Success in this role will be defined by the development of a thorough technical understanding of cost effective decarbonization options for Calpine and delivery of actionable engineering work products.

Key responsibilities of the role are below:
• Project management of Front End Engineering and Design (FEED) studies for Post-Combustion Carbon Capture
• Support development of technical project scoping documents aligned with Calpine commercial targets.
• Communication of key project results to internal stakeholders including: Engineering, Operations, EHS, & Commercial Teams.
• Coordination of multiple technical engineering vendors to manage project targets around: SCOPE, SCHEDULE, & COST.
• Understand optimal scope breaks and project execution structure for projects involving multiple engineering vendors.
• Participate in interviews of technology vendors, engineering firms, and other project solution providers.
• Document and communicate findings associated with projects such that they can be leveraged across fleet.
• Develop technical expertise in decarbonization options and applicability to Calpine assets.

Key Activities:
• Track and report on engineering contractor management
• Ensure technical review/validity of engineering deliverables.
• Support and review of engineering studies
• Support of Engineering Scope Development
• Communication of results to technical and non-technical audiences.

Preferred Skills:
• Process Design Experience in the following areas : Hydrogen Production, Post-Combustion Carbon Capture, Gas-Liquid Separation Towers, Bulk Gas Handling
• Operations or Design Experience in Natural Gas Combined Cycle Power Plants and/or Integrated Chemical Facilities highly preferred.
• Project management experience on large capital projects in the Chemical Process Industry (CPI), Oil and Gas Industry (OGI) and/or Utility Industry.
• Experience with PMP, Scrum, LEAN/Six Sigma, and other formal project management or process optimization methodologies.
• Intermediate level presentation, Power Point and Excel model-building skills
• Experience with project management software such as MS Project or Smartsheets
• Management of Change (MOC) experience on large capital projects.
• Experience reading and interpreting contracts.
• Experience with DoE funded projects is a plus.

Relevant Experience:
• Candidate should offer a subset of the experience and knowledge below:
o Understanding of first principles governing design and evaluation of gas-liquid separations equipment.
o Development of Heat & Material Balances for complex thermal processes.
o Management of complex projects including multiple internal and external partners.
o Natural Gas Power Plant Design and Operation
o Chemical Process/Refinery Design and Operation
• Team player with a “whatever it takes” attitude who is used to diving into an issue, brainstorming solutions, and learning new methods and tools to address.”


• Bachelors or advanced degrees in chemical, electrical, mechanical or industrial engineering.
• Preferred Three to Five years relevant experience (Power Generation, Oil & Gas or Chemical Process Industry)
