The Shell Catalysts & Technologies organization is looking for an experienced and technically strong Reliability Engineer to be a part of its Michigan City, Indiana plant.

This role reports to the Engineering Technical Maintenance Manager at the Michigan City plant and resides within SC&T.

The Reliability Engineer is expected to work across different functions & disciplines within Operations, Technical, Engineering, Maintenance, Projects / Turnaround, HSSE, Logistics team members and externally within P&T, Consultants/Specialists, Vendors, OEM & contractors to deliver best-in-class reliability performance for the Site.

What is the Role?

Reliability Engineer, Michigan City Plant

The primary function of the Reliability Engineer is to provide leadership and technical support within the Production and Maintenance teams for improved reliability and deliver production unplanned downtime (UPDT) targets through long-term problem solving by identifying threats, assessing risk, collecting and analyzing performance data to drive the site to a more proactive and generative culture.

Some of the principal duties and responsibilities are as follows:

1. Champion the Managing Threats and Opportunities (MTO) work process to assure that we are identifying, prioritizing, and mitigating reliability threats and opportunities.

2. Support the Investigation process by facilitating reliability investigations. Champions efforts to grow causal learning use at the site

3. Collect and analyze site reliability performance data and reliability metric data for Reliability Steering, Maintenance, and Production Teams; functioning as the Overall Equipment Effectiveness focal point for the site.

4. Serve as turnaround coordinator in order to plan execution of site turnarounds and other project driven shutdowns. Aligning operations, projects, and maintenance activities.

5. Knowledge / skill of Reliability Engineering Principles, practices and application and ability to discern appropriate application including but not limited to: Failure Modes and Effects Analysis (FMEA), Causal Learning investigation techniques (level 1 and 2), Fault Tree Analysis (FTA), Reliability Block Diagram (RBD), Life Cycle Cost Analysis (LCCA), Reliability Centered Maintenance (RCM), Weibull analysis, etc.

6. Actively participate in informal meetings to help create clarity and ensure a reliability/causal mindset is included in the conversation as well as in the interim and long-term mitigations.

7. Actively participate in the RCM work process, including RCM Living Program, and its role in developing optimized, long-term strategies for reliable asset management.

8.Provide maintenance support with regard to engineering issues like pipe sizing, vessel replacement, preventive maintenance practices; and coordinate efforts with other technical disciplines.

9. Champion the use of Intelatrac and other equipment condition monitoring practices.

10. Facilitate periodic reviews on critical spares, min/max inventory levels, Material Master coding and support on list of materials creation and upload into CMMS.

Skills and Requirements

What We Need from You –

This is a highly visible role charged with executing a critical business activity; demonstrable delivery performance will be key to success in selection. The challenges are complex and reach across multiple disciplines and functions. The candidate must have strong relationship skills, ability to influence a wide variety of stakeholders and strong analytical skills.

Must have legal authorization to work in the US on a full-time basis for anyone other than current employer.

BS in Engineering (Mechanical/Chemical/Process/Industrial/etc.)

Minimum five (5) years of related Manufacturing Industry experience, Petrochemical or Refinery experience preferred.

Related experience in reliability maintenance (including a sound understanding of both Engineering and Maintenance processes). Experience with solids handling is advantageous.

Skilled competency in Asset Reliability Strategy and Improvement, Management of Change (MOC), Causal Learning, Manage Equipment Care and Turnaround Scope Development

Knowledge competency in all engineering disciplines: process, rotating equipment, electrical, control systems, and pressure equipment. As well as Ensure Safe Production (ESP).

Ability to carryout assignments while observing HSSE and having a safety mindset.

Strong verbal and written communication skills with the ability to interface with personnel from diverse backgrounds at all levels of the organization.

Strong organizational skills with the ability to balance short and longer term reliability initiatives.
