Ovintiv’s Legal Department is seeking an in-house senior attorney to join a dynamic team of professionals practicing a wide range of natural resources law with a focus on environmental, health, safety and regulatory (EHS) matters that impact the Company’s risk in the U.S. and Canada.
This position will be based in either Houston, Texas or Denver, Colorado based on candidate location and will be responsible for proactively guiding and collaborating with various internal clients on a broad range of EHSR matters, as well as general oil and gas operational matters in both the U.S. and Canada.

Provide legal advice to all levels of the organization on a wide scope of oil and gas matters, including EHSR maters.Regulatory compliance and resolution of environmental and operational impacts.Manage complex legal matters, including matters with Local, State, Provincial and Federal agencies.Handle OSHA investigations.Keep informed of regulatory and policy developments, participate in industry associations as may be designated, and partner with the business to identify potential impacts and compliance strategies.Draft and review contracts, contract negotiations and analysis of complex legal issues.Collaborate with internal and external counsel on litigation matters.
10+ years law firm or comparable legal experience with emphasis on oil and gas, including EHSR or similar practice areas required.JD, with license in Texas, Colorado, or comparable producing state(s).Excellent negotiating, project management, dispute resolution and interpersonal skills.Strong drafting and research skills.Motivated self-starter who can independently manage a dynamic and varied oil and gas practice.Some travel will be required.Ability to meet Department of Justice requirements with or without assistance from Ovintiv.
In accordance with applicable law, the following represents Ovintiv’s reasonable estimate of the hiring compensation range for this role.
HIRING SALARY RANGE: $185,000 – $235,000 USD
Compensation may vary and will be determined by the geographic location, education, experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities of the applicant, internal equity, and alignment with market data.
