Ovintiv is seeking an in-house attorney with practical and business-oriented mindset to join a dynamic team of professionals whose practice includes a wide range of natural resources law matters.
In this role, you will be a member of a team that manages all disputes and proactively manages risk. Primary accountability of this role will be to manage the company’s US litigation portfolio which includes a wide variety of disputes in various states including Texas, Oklahoma, Colorado, and North Dakota.
This position can be located in Denver, Colorado or in The Woodlands, Texas and reports to the Director of Litigation & Compliance. Support the Litigation function for the company and manage all US disputes, including e-discovery and related document management.Provide practical, timely legal advice to various internal stakeholders on a wide variety of litigation related issues, including procedures, timelines, potential outcomes, legal obligations, compliance risks, and exposure.Help drive strategy on disputes, understanding the business objectives and clarifying complex issues.Strategize and assist in implementing proactive plans to mitigate litigation risk.Provide coordinated legal advice, with internal and external counsel, to various business groups within the company and manage relationships with external counsel.Assist with preparation of budgets for litigation, and assessing financial risk of litigation.
JD, with license in Texas, Oklahoma, Colorado, or comparable producing state(s).Six or more years of law firm or comparable legal experience with emphasis on oil and gas disputes or commercial litigation. Demonstrated industry experience and knowledge are required.Some exposure to policy work, regulatory or workplace related legal issues would be an asset.Collaborative, inclusive team player who can work on multi-disciplinary teams.Excellent negotiating, project management, conflict resolution and interpersonal skills.Strong analytical skills and judgment to resolve complex matters, taking a holistic approach to problem-solving – both legal and business objectives.Motivated self-starter who can independently manage a dynamic and varied oil and gas litigation portfolio.Excellent time management skills and ability to balance various priorities and pivot as needed.Flexible, growth mindset to pitch in wherever needed when workloads change.Ability to communicate complex legal/business issues to various audiences, both verbally and in writing.Ability to meet Department of Justice requirements with or without assistance from Ovintiv.Some travel will be required.
In accordance with applicable law, the following represents Ovintiv’s reasonable estimate of the hiring compensation range for this role.
HIRING SALARY RANGE: $160,000 – $200,000 USD
Compensation may vary and will be determined by the geographic location, education, experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities of the applicant, internal equity, and alignment with market data.
