This is an ideal role for a Senior Electrical Engineer with extensive experience with electrical safety, electrical maintenance, electrical standards, electrical system studies and electrical system protection and control.

SPEX operates the Malampaya Natural Gas Production Facilities that supplies fuel to customer power plants with combined generating capacity of around 3.0 GW, which represents 30% to 40% of Luzon’s power grid capacity.  The natural gas production facilities include a Shallow Water Platform (SWP) with an integrated Depletion Compression Platform (DCP) located in Palawan, an Onshore Gas Plant (OGP) in Batangas City each of which has its own Power Generation and Distribution network with total installed capacity of 26.5 MW.

The Sr. Electrical Engineer is a member of the Instrument, Control and Electrical Team under the Engineering and Projects Department.

What’s the role?  

The Sr. Electrical Engineer role will be accountable in delivering the electrical discipline component of safe, reliable and efficient operation of SWP and OGP particularly (but not necessarily limited to) generators for power production, switchgear and distribution panels beyond 24V, transformers, UPS & distribution panels, VSD’s for motor control, motors and their protection relays, ignition and Ex control. The electrical discipline also supports HVAC and subsea control power system.

Key Responsibilities:

Make it Safe:

Accountable for safety in design, operation and maintenance of electrical systems based on international, national, Shell group standards and best practices.

Accountable for organizational capability in safe operation and maintenance of electrical systems.

Accountable for the development and integration of relevant performance standards.

Accountable for scopes ascribed to a Technical Authority 2 (TA2) for the discipline based on SPEX and Shell group processes e.g. ACAL, MEC, MTO, Deviation

Accountable in driving compliance to local legislated requirement to have one Professional Electrical Engineer for any operation with power generation component.

Responsible for assuring of electrical safety critical element integrity including identification, maintenance and assurance strategy setting, validation of health and effectiveness of strategies, and optimization.

Responsible for providing design basis and corresponding discipline review of critical engineering design for brownfield and greenfield changes driven by SPEX Management of Change. The discipline also typically takes full responsibility in the delivery of a project which may include project engineering and detailed design scope.

Responsible for the creation, promotion and embedding of electrical safety practices.

Responsible to provide leadership and/or support for problem solving and investigation of unwanted events or opportunities to strengthen technical integrity.

Accountable to develop and integrate discipline strategic and operational plans into the company processes and strategic and activity plans.

Responsible for discipline support in identifying and/or mitigating, addressing and resolving threats. Attend site, morning calls on a regular basis to be familiar with all discipline related equipment and operations issues and provide a “sense check” on the non-routine work arising.

Responsible for keeping discipline documents up to date and fit for purpose.

Responsible for the creation of the electrical component in the asset care plan including the base maintenance and lifecycle strategies and corresponding optimization process.

Responsible to provide leadership and/or support for problem solving and investigation of unwanted events or opportunities to strengthen reliability.

Responsible to promote standardization & smart replication in engineering approaches. Which also includes ensuring the processes, procedures and tools are used, and ensure their proper implementation by the Engineering Contractor.

Responsible to gain and maintain Shell certified Technical Authority 2 to facilitate efficient use of Shell processes that assigns certain accountabilities and responsibilities that can only be fulfilled by certified TAs

Accountable for embedding continuous improvement and opportunity mindset in the discipline.

Responsible to scan opportunities and drive for timely realization which may require taking in the role of project engineer.

Responsible to develop and maximize partnership contracts (vendors and service providers) as contract owner or contract holder throughout the lifecycle of the contract.

Responsible to develop and nurture SPEX network within the group, other business units and industry to enable collaboration and innovation in the company.  

What we need from you? 

When it comes to safety, your excellent HSSE skills and continuous improvement will make the difference. We’re keen to hear from individuals excellent people and communication skills to nurture collaborative stakeholder relations. Someone who has the capability to design, interpret and review designs and projects involving electrical changes.

Beyond that, we’d hope to see as many of the following as possible on your CV:

At least 10 years of cumulative experience on electrical discipline operation and maintenance and/or engineering scope.

Electrical Safety, Hazardous and Ex Equipment, Electrical System Studies, Electrical Protection and Control, Electrical Maintenance.

Minimum of bachelor’s in electrical engineering or equivalent.
